We are pleased to present Harlington Hospice Quality Account for the year 2019-20. We
recognise that there has been a significant delay in publication due to the impact of the
Covid-19 pandemic and following NHS permission and guidance to allow for a delay during
the past year of significant challenge.

This Quality Account describes important developments in our organisation throughout the
year which have resulted in refurbishment of existing, but previously disused, hospice
accommodation and subsequent expansion of our services. This has included the provision
of in-patient beds for the first time.

The opening of the In-patient Unit took place in January 2020 and therefore information on
this service covers one quarter only. The Quality Account for year 2020-21 will reflect a
complete year of in-patient data for the first time.

In addition the acceleration of the Covid-19 emergency resulted in the significant
curtailment of some services within Q4 and changed methods of delivery of other services
such as lymphoedema clinics and bereavement counselling. It is anticipated that a lot of
information on our response as a hospice to the pandemic will be included in our Quality
Account 2020-21.

In summary, our achievements for the year include:

- The significant effort made by the clinical team and others to complete preparations
required to successfully open the In-patient Unit. As a result we have been able to provide
this important service for the residents of the London Borough of Hillingdon from the
beginning of 2020;
- Embedding our planned Quality Governance arrangements and appointing a new trustee
with current nurse registration and a wealth of clinical expertise;
- Investing in infrastructure to prepare for the expansion of our hospice services into
another location in the borough, opening in-patient beds and doubling the number of
staff in our team.

We are proud of the achievements of the whole team over a year of change and
development and most of all look forward to building further on the foundations laid within
the past year.
